We need help. Probably always will. You won't need to leave your house, we won't steal your credit cards, and we'll try not to keep you up until 3 AM every night the weekend before episode release. But, if you can help, we'd be really grateful and sneak you into the credits for your trouble. So here's the list of what we could really use right now:
Audio Engineer: The complexity of building a scene out of random sound files, some dialogue, background noises, and a vast library of miscellaneous sounds on loan to you from the good people at Darker Projects, frankly boggled my mind when I started the show. I proposed Excelsior as an audio show because I wanted to focus on the scripts, not the special effects. But it isn't easy, and without a remarkable team of volunteers with skill, experience, and, mostly, a lot of dedication to this show, the Excelsior would still be a forty-seven page .doc file on my computer. We need more of you to stay up until 2 AM the week before release trying to figure out how to make Cortez audible without warping her sound quality beyond repair while simultaneously digging through two hundred files looking for just the right set of footsteps for your scene. It's a great team, it's a fun job, and it's rewarding work. But you've got to send me that email saying you want to help. Qualifications: Has access to and minimal (let me emphasize that: minimal) experience with Cool Edit Pro, Adobe Audition, or equivalent program. Time Committment: You'll be expected to be able to turn a scene around at least every couple of weeks, which usually amounts to several hours of focused work, especially for newer editors.
An Orchestra: Yeah, this is an odd one and a long shot. But one of my permenant long-term goals is to eventually get some lucky group to do a version of our main theme song using non-virtual (aka "real") instruments. The theme song is fully notated and ready to be played. If you just happen to have the power to get a whole lot of strings and winds and percussion instruments together to perform and record three minutes of music, please write James at ussexcelsiorc@gmail.com. And, yes, if you can get pretty close to the right instrumentation, but can't find a real live harp (for instance), we can work with that. You'd win eternal praise and glory from us for this one.
Public Relations Guy: You know another thing that takes a lot of time? Posting announcements about new episodes on twenty-two forums, that's what! We could really use someone who'd be willing to post those announcements for us and generally drum up public enthusiasm for the excellence that is Star Trek: Excelsior. Yes, we have a list of forums. Write James at ussexcelsiorc@gmail.com.
If you feel you can help us in any of the above capacities, or that you have something else you can contribute to the project, please contact us at ussexcelsiorc@gmail.com.
